Manihiki, Cook Islands
-
Ocean Tupuna, alongside Ocean Toa, engaged in a month long scoping on the remote island of Manihiki, located in the northern group of the Cook islands.
The purpose of this expedition was to gain baseline findings, in order to be able to identify areas requiring revitalization or biodiversity conservation.
-
Through a diverse range of approaches, this month-long expedition combined community consultations, engagement with traditional leaders and government representatives, and extensive marine scientific scoping both above and below the water.
Building on these scientific and community-led insights from Manihiki, Ocean Tupuna will continue facilitating community dialogue and marine monitoring to help shape a long-term strategy that supports the island today and for generations to come.
